Make sure cutting surface is flat.

Male sure head of press is flat and smooth.

Watch out for staples, nails, screws, or metal objects, as the can cause dies to break.

Care and Maintenence

The basics of good die cutting are: using cutting dies that are maintained in a sharp condition and are in good repair, cutting on surfaces that are well groomed and flat, and cutting only as much material in one die cut that will not overload the die and cause it to “explode open”. In addition to increase the dies life it is best not to cut dies that are larger than the head of the press they are being cut by.  This could lead to dies warping and twisting out of shape, which could eventually lead to cracking and breaking.

The storage of cutting dies is of prime importance to maintaining their good condition.  It is wise to store a set of dies in an area that is dry and away from moisture to prevent rusting. Finally it is recommended that dies are stored in a manner to protect the dies from one another so there is no cutting edge to cutting edge contact of the dies.

Preventive maintenance is the keyword to long and effective die life.  With proper care during use, adequate storage and simple inspection after each use, dies should give you many years of service.  If the die gets dull from constant use, it should be sharpened.  Should your dies need repairs or re-sharpening return them to us for reconditioning.
